In order to improve college students ’ability of listening and speaking foreign languages and reach the goal of the revised “College English Curriculum Requirements”, this paper investigates college students’ likes and dislikes toward real spoken language corpus, finds and analyzes a serious misunderstanding that hinders them from improving their listening and speaking skills, “Good” spoken English must be pronounced pure, grammatically correct, sentences long and complex. Even a significant portion of college students are convinced that the ultimate goal of speaking ability should be the same as in spoken textbooks. This understanding has largely misled the development of foreign language learners’ listening and speaking abilities. Therefore, this article analyzes how to use the real spoken language corpus to improve students’ listening and speaking abilities.
