The Shanghai City God Temple was rebuilt by the Jinshan Temple in the Ming Dynasty. The Jinshan Temple was built by King Wu of the Three Kingdoms era. Legend has it that at the time the sea monster in the area of Jinshan was harmed. When Wu King could not descend, he served as the West Han Dynasty Sima and the great General Huo Guang as the Jinshan God and built a temple to drive the blame. (Of course, these are purely superstitious legends.) After the reconstruction of the Chenghuang Temple, the front hall is still full of light, and the apse is dedicated to the red-faced city walls. This is the difference between the Shanghai City God Temple and the general City God Temple.
