Lingqu is a great water conservancy project in China during the Qin Dynasty. In 221 BC, Emperor Qin Shi ordered the generals to slaughter and attack Baiyue (now in Guangxi and Guangdong). In order to facilitate military transportation, the local officials inspected and led the military and civilians to open a canal to connect the Xiangjiang River and the Lancang River, which was completed around 219 BC. This is the famous Lingqu Canal. Since then, it has been the main route for China’s north-south navigation for two thousand years. The Haiyang River of the Xiangjiang River originates from Haiyang Mountain in Lingui County, Guangxi Province.
