News Background On December 18, 2006, the Sino-Pakistani joint anti-terror military exercise codenamed “Friendship -2006” ended successfully in Abbottabad, a mountainous area in northeastern Pakistan. The exercise was divided into two phases, starting from December 11 and officially lasted for eight days, setting a new record for non-traditional military exercises conducted by the Chinese and foreign armed forces in the field of security. Although this exercise is modest, it has aroused widespread media attention at home and abroad. Public opinion generally believes that the exercise injected new impetus into the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two armed forces of the two countries and marked the new stage in the military relations between the two countries. The close military cooperation between the two countries is of great significance to cracking down this region. Terrorism, separatism and extremism “three forces” will play a powerful deterrent effect.
