The physiological significance of a trace element Trace elements play a role in the body of a catalyst, can accelerate the biochemical processes and physiological processes, can regulate the oxidation-reduction characteristics of tissues and cells. Their physiological role is related to the formation of metal-organic compounds. If molecules of organic compounds or a part of them (atomic groups) are combined with them, the catalytic activity of the metal is enhanced by several million times. For example, when iron ions are not normally found in living organisms but bound to proteins to form hemin complexes in organisms, their activity increases by more than 10 million times.
