Animal experiments have shown that luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) has the effect of delayed mating and vaginal keratosis and contraception after mating. This anti-fertility effect of LH-RH and its hyperactive analogs, at least in rats, is due to the significant loss of the corpus luteum accompanied by ovarian LH, FSH and lactogen receptors and a decrease in plasma progesterone levels. The authors attempted to investigate whether the use of LH-RH during the luteal phase of normal women had a corpora lutea effect. Ten healthy women aged from 26 to 42 were selected as subjects.
