The diagnostic analysis of the relationship between the meridional wind stress anomalies in the tropical Pacific and the E1 Ni o events was carried out. By comparing with the zonal wind stress anomalies in the tropical western Pacific, the meridional wind stress anomalies converging in the equatorial central and eastern equatorial region are also of equal importance to those of the El Nifio event.
