69 cases of early gastric cancer specimens were detected using monoclonal anti-E-cad, a-cat and p53 protein antibodies and immunohistochemistry. The results showed that the decreased expression rates of E-cad and a-cat were 53.6% and 65.2% respectively, and the positive rate of p53 protein was 27.5%. The expression of E-cad and a-cat was significantly correlated, but the expression of p53 was not related to the expression of E-cad or α-cat. The rate of lymph node metastasis was lower in submucosal cancer α-cat and p53 protein positive expression. However, there was no lymph node metastasis in both intra-mucosal and submucosal cancers in α-cat retained expression and p53 protein negative expression. It suggests that the combination of α-cat and p53 protein can help diagnose lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer.
