当某一遗传病(或性状)是由很多对基因决定,而每对基因作用都是较微小的,无显性与隐性之别,其作用又是积累的时,称为多基因遗传(Polygenic inheritance)。当多对基因相加的结果超过一定阈值时候,可以呈现疾病,称为多基因遗传病。有时,除遗传因素外,环境因素也起作用,称为多基因遗传病(multifactorial inheritance)以下统称为多基因病。 多基因遗传病的研究还只有十几年时间,目前主要包括一些常见病(如高血压,重型精神病)与常见先天畸形(唇裂,先天性心脏病等)。由于这些病发病率高,对健康影响较大。因此是医学科学和医学遗传学
