On November 3, 2013, I interviewed Basti Academician who came to give lectures in Shanghai. Mr. bun bun silk chaos, stature emaciated, but unyielding, pro and yet measured, the gentleman is also. The whole conversation lasted until 4.30 pm during which she recalled some interesting details. However, for a 73-year-old man, such high-density conversation is still a physical test. Her Occasionally stop to drink coffee refreshing. The theme of the interview can probably be attributed to both ends: How did Mr. get onto the road to Chinese studies? She played the role of a “link” in academic exchanges both at home and abroad. This article is based on the interview recording finishing, and by the Basti academician himself.
