By USing cyanoaromatic sensitizers,some alkenes,alkyties sulfides,and OXiranes which donot undergo photooxidation with singlet oxygen(~1O_2)may react readily with oxygen viaan electron transfer pathway.The works of Santamaria,~1 Foote~2 as well as ours have beenmainly concerned with the possible singlet oxygen reactions involVed in the electron transferphotooXidations.In this communication,we report the 9,10-dicyanoanthracene(DCA)sensitized photooxidation of,trans,trans-1,4-dipheny1-1,3-butadiene and try to clarify itsmechanism.
