4月25日尼泊尔地震令喜马拉雅山麓的一个南亚小国千疮百孔,也令世界最高峰珠穆朗玛峰变矮了2.5厘米。地理课本告诉我们,喜马拉雅山脉地区由大陆板块碰撞挤压而成,属地震活跃带。在一般人印象里,板块相撞应令山脉高度攀升才对。可是,据美国趣味科学网站(Live Science)报道,经非营利性地球科学组织UNAVC0科学家确认,珠穆朗玛峰的高度在尼泊尔地震后下降1英寸(2.5厘米)。其证据来自欧洲航天局Sentinel-1A卫星4月29日在珠穆朗玛峰上采集到的数据。
The April 25 Nepal earthquake struck hundreds of holes in a small South Asian country at the foothills of the Himalayas and shortened Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, by 2.5 centimeters. Geography textbook tells us that the Himalayas region by the continental plate by the impact of extrusion, is a seismic belt. In most people’s minds, the plate collision should make the height of the mountain climb up. However, according to the Live Science report, the height of Mount Everest declined by 1 inch (2.5 cm) after the Nepali earthquake, as confirmed by scientists at UNAVC0, a not-for-profit earth science organization. The evidence comes from the data collected on Everest by the European Space Agency Sentinel-1A on April 29.
