英裔印度贝尔文学奖获奖作家维·斯·奈保尔的《模仿者》通过自传形式的载体传递了多种文化形态作用于同一时间、空间、人物身上的“新混血儿”文化身份的复杂与纠缠。作者及他笔下的人物无法完全“抵达”多种文化任何一方,他被悬在当中,充满了异类感和漂泊感;终身在边缘化中生存。同样,中国著名女作家张爱玲,其际遇曲折离奇,一生竭力逃避世俗主流,生活中刻意让自己边缘化,在其作品中“模仿”多重身份,然而全都倒影了作者对号入座的“模仿者”角色饰演,其结局与奈保尔何其相似,在漂泊无根中了其终身。
