Philadelphia, PA, is selling a fiber cable called PHILLYSTRAN. The weight of this cable is only 1/5 of that of a steel cable of the same size and strength. In water, it weighs only 1/30 of the steel cable. This lightweight cable made of impregnated aramid fibers, 5/64 to 9/17 in. In diameter, has been widely used as a mechanical cable and a motor cable in construction. This lightweight cable has the same flexibility as a composite cable.
