Background: Short to help fixed boots commonly used in acute and chronic lower extremity injury intervention. There have been few studies on the correlation between neuromuscular activation patterns and short boots, and no one has ever studied the temporal features of gait muscle activation. The aim of this study was to investigate the timing and amplitude of the ankle muscles when walking with two different short gang fixed boots. Methods: Eleven healthy young adults underwent five walk tests in three test conditions (normal walking, walking on Gait Walker, wearing Equalizer short walking boots) and free walking pace. The ground reaction force was collected from the dynamometer and the EMG parameters of the anterior tibialis, peroneal muscle and medial gastrocnemius were collected. Correct and smooth the EMG signal with a 20-ms smoothing window and normalize the EMG using the maximum mean value of the normal walking test. Repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed on the variables to evaluate the effect of short boot on the onset, duration and amplitude of muscle activation. Results: The use of short gang fixed boots started early and sustained with muscle activation, but the amplitude of EMG did not decrease. CONCLUSIONS: Evoked changes in muscle activation patterns may limit the use of short-boot fixed boots.
