川棚町是一个历史悠久的温泉小镇,可以上溯到江户时代。近年来,却渐渐失去生机,原因是多方面的:游客流量衰减、部分无人继承的客栈停业、不复使用的公共交通。在这种情况下,设计者提出的建筑方案不是只对小镇历史和传统做简单维护,而是像一个洞穴那样,有机地纳入所在的地表与小镇背后的群山。
Chuan Shumin is a historic spa town that dates back to the Edo period. In recent years, it has gradually lost its vitality due to many reasons: the declining flow of tourists, the suspension of some unmanned innhouses and the public transport that is no longer used. Under such circumstances, the architect’s proposal for a building program is not simply to maintain the town’s history and traditions simply. Instead, it is like a cave organically incorporated into the surface of the land and the hills behind the town.
