Five centrifugal fans were tested at various speeds. They are similar in geometry but different in size. After the test, the dimensionless total pressure and efficiency at each Reynolds number are plotted against the dimensionless flow. It turns out that most fans have a “door Reynolds number.” Above this threshold, the fan performance is essentially independent of the Reynolds number; below this value, the fan performance changes with the Reynolds number. Thus, it is shown that for the description of fan performance, the correlations of the three ancillary subgroups are more general than the two commonly non-dimensional groupings of correlations.
