There are many ancient lacquer ware unearthed in Japan and Germany, which provide a very good opportunity for the study of ancient Chinese lacquer making methods and paint film materials. A. Brumester studied the cross-sectional structure of ancient Chinese lacquerware from the Warring States to the Qing Dynasty through microscopy and analyzed the chemical composition of paint films, pigments and paint ash by XRF and XRD (1987). The author observed through microscope the ancient Chinese lacquer artifacts unearthed, paint ash structure and inorganic filler species. Bone meal was found in the ash samples that are generally not considered as added with bone meal, as documented in ancient Chinese literature. The report is as follows.
