In India, papermaking and the use of paper can be traced back to the beginning of the second century. However, until now, India’s paper industry did not have a government department under its control. As a result, the Indian paper industry has never had an authoritative statistical data. The paper industry still belongs to an informally organized industrial sector in the government economy, so it is hard to know exactly how big the Indian paper market is. According to data released by the government, in 2012, India had an annual output of paper and paperboard of about 12 million tons, but the actual output was estimated to have reached 16 million tons. As we all know, the global pulp and paper industry is mainly distributed in North America (the United States and Canada), Northern Europe (Finland, Sweden and Northwestern Russia) and Asia (China, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea), India’s pulp and paper industry accounts for only the world’s 1.6% or so.
