中國數學會天津分會根據會員的意見,認為對於近似計算存在問题很多,很多教師過去都未加注意,有的教師去年講過貝爾曼著數學解析教程及加里寧著代數學教程(皆係張理京等譯)也發現很多不明確的問題,其他如中學的幾何物理,大學的許多課程的蘇聯教材中都很重視這點,天津分會根據這種情况遂於六月廿七日上午請中國科學院數學研究所研究員閔乃大同志作了一次報告。 閔乃大同志在報告中指出近似計算的重要性,計算數學和理論數學在處理問題中的區别,又详細解釋和比較上述兩書中許多名詞的含義,也指出一些翻譯文字的可能錯誤,詳細地解釋了絕對誤差,相對誤差舆近似數的關係,近似數的基本運算(加减乘除乘方開方求對數等)所發生的誤差問题。以後並單略介紹方程的近似解,並舉一突出的例子來喚起大家的注意,這是一個普通二元一次聯立方程,由这方程求出的解的誤差比這解本身的值還大,因此這種解是毫無實際意義的,最後在
