The ototoxicity of chickens and quails was studied by gentamicin (GM) and kanamycin (KM) respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations showed that hair cells in the inner ear of 10-day-old chickens were severely damaged at a dose of 80 mg / kg GM, while there was no significant change in the 40-day-old quails. The inner ear of quail was more sensitive to KM than to GM, KM doses of quail inner ear poisoning (350-400 mg / kg) have been equivalent to the mammalian inner ear poisoning dose; while chickens and parrots only require 1/2 of the dose to cause severe damage to the inner ear. Indicating that chickens and quails on such antibiotics within the inner ear reaction there is a big species difference. To understand this phenomenon for the conduct of bird hair cell regeneration and even the clinical treatment of nerve deafness will play a catalytic role.
