什么是经学?古代解释经书之学。这样问和答是否显得肤浅?我想作些说明。因为不同场合、说明不同问题,可以作不同的解答。过去我在写《汉唐文化史》、《秦汉文化志》时,都曾有《经学》的专门章节,讲到经学的产生、发展,主要讲发展。在《汉唐文化史》中有这样几句话:经学的产生和发展,主要是在汉唐时期。狭义地理解,汉以前可以说有经而无学,唐以后研究儒家经典与汉唐经学又颇不一样。“经学”这个词,似乎最早见于《汉书·兒宽传》的记载:
