John Humphrey (1967) first speculated that T-cell receptors may be composed of heavy chains that do not have a light chain. This very accurate prediction has now been repeatedly affirmed in various experimental systems. T cell receptors against non-MHC antigens carry idiotype determinants Ramseir et al. (1972) first proposed and explored the hypothesis that T cells carry individual epitopes. Their exploration was based on the notion that F_1 hybrids obtained from two pure lines should express either their entire parents’
