The concrete pouring of the main structure of the Gorky Hydroelectric Power Station is carried out by cable, portal, tower, track-mounted boom overloading machines, dump trucks and concrete pumps with 3-square-meter and 1.5-square-meter tanks. Between 1953 and 1954, concrete pumps were used extensively to build shiplocks and spillways: pouring piers and seepage cutoff walls. In all cases (except for impervious walls), concrete pumps can be used to cast concrete sections of higher elevation. The use of concrete pumps in the pouring of impervious cutoff walls is mainly due to the small size of the site. Initially (Summer 1953) only two sets of concrete pump equipment were installed at the upstream lock building (Figure 1).
