Objective To explore the relationship between the level of physical activity and blood pressure of different exercise intensity in the elderly. Methods From January to February 1999, we conducted a two-stage sampling survey of some middle-aged and elderly people (51-75 years old) in Zhuguang Street, Guangzhou City. The survey includes the general situation, amateur sports activities, blood pressure (BP) and so on. Of the 254 respondents who completed the survey, 98 were known to have chronic cardiovascular disease and the remaining 156 (63 males and 93 females) were analyzed in this study. Results The total amount of exercise in 156 people from 0 ~ 48.6Mets-h / week, expenditures at different levels of exercise intensity (low, medium, high) levels were significantly left-skewed distribution. Multivariate regression analysis using regression analysis showed that BP was independently associated with activity levels above mid-high intensity. Conclusion Overall, higher intensity activity levels have lower BP.
