90年代以来,对外汉语教学出现了专业化发展趋向,由过去单纯的语言文化教学,发展为以汉语为载体的涵盖各专业领域的专业汉语教学。近现代史上,只有英语、俄语、法语、西班牙语和德语在世界范围内开展过专业教学。由于中国和以汉语为主要传播媒介的东亚经济圈在21世纪世界经济格局中占有重要地位,为促进东亚经济圈与北美、西欧经济集团及世界其他地区的经济文化交流,在自然科学和社会科学的各专业开展以汉语为教学语言的专业教学,已成为对外汉语教学跨世纪的发展目标。
