最近,韩国出现学龄前儿童学习英语的热潮,英语早期教育成为韩国一个兴盛产业。目前,韩国面向幼儿的英语学堂约有500所,加上普通英语学院所设的幼儿班,约有1000所。上这种英语学堂的儿童有54万人,每人平均一年的费用为66万韩元。这些面向学龄前儿童的英语学堂由外国人担任教师,由在英语国家留过学的韩国人当助手,学费不等,最高则高于私立大学的学费。有的学费很高的英语学堂完全移植美国的幼儿园教育方式,3~6岁的儿童在教室从问早安到上课全部使用英语,原则上禁止使用韩文。孩子的名字都使用英文名,音乐课唱的是美国童谣,给人以完全是生活在美国的错觉。上这种英语学堂儿童的父母都是医生、律师等高收入阶层
Recently, there has been a wave of preschool children learning English in South Korea, and early education in English has become a flourishing industry in Korea. At present, there are about 500 English schools for young children in Korea, plus about 1,000 preschool classes offered by the General English College. There are 540,000 children in this English-language school, with an average person’s fee of 660,000 won a year. These English-language schools for preschoolers are taught by foreigners, assisted by South Koreans who have studied in English-speaking countries, with tuition fees ranging up to those of private universities. Some highly-tuned English language schools completely transplant the kindergarten education in the United States. Children aged 3-6 years old use English in the classroom from morning till day to class. In principle, Korean is forbidden. The children’s names all use the English name, and the music lessons sing the American nursery rhymes, giving people the illusion of living entirely in the United States.
