The story of Wu Song Tiger is well known, however, “Water Margin” why the tiger is called “big bug”? Someone explained that in ancient China, all animals are called insects, insects can be broadly refers to all animals, and also Divided into five categories. For example, birds are feathers, animals are caterpillars, turtles are beetles, fish snakes are scale worms, humans and frogs, and earthworms are pinworms. This description of the classification of “five insects” is found in the Dai Dai rite of the Western Han Dynasty. However, this statement only shows part of the reason, and can not fully explain why the tiger is called “bug.”
