After the new era educated youth writers committed to writing city themes, with particular emphasis on urban culture criticism. In such works, on the one hand, the protagonist’s material desires and physical appeals shift from lack of desire to worship money and fetishism. On the other hand, the spiritual pursuit and soul appeal of the protagonist are weakened, books and knowledge once regarded as treasures And other concepts faded glory and even contempt. The shift of desire type in the works reveals the sharp perception of the educated youth writers about the vicissitudes of the times and reflects the profound insight into the current state of the public’s life and implies worries and critiques of the contemporary humanistic spirit entering a crisis. Only by observing and comparing the two dimensions of history and synchronicity can we get a clearer understanding of the uniqueness and value of urban writing by educated writers. Of course, some of the one-sidedness and extremeness of this writing and criticism are worth reflecting on.
