Survey task in chaos Before I was engaged in the survey of bridge artistes, I was interested in the issues of folk faith just as I was entering the second year of my master’s degree. Specifically, I have a strong interest in the role of different gods in the everyday life of ordinary people in modern rural society and in the relationship between God and man. I have tried to use this as a starting point to understand the worldview of the people in my memory who now live under the same blue sky. At the same time, I ambitiously set myself a systematic reading of bibliographies of scholars and scholars at home and abroad on the investigation and study of folk beliefs. It is also through the reading of these books that I know both Mr. Li Yijun and Mr. Qiao Jian and are attracted to their research style and presentation. Therefore, when my mentor, Professor Liu Tieliang, told me in September 1999 that Mr. Qiao Jian wanted to find someone in the Beijing Flyover Survey as a sub-topic of his “traditional bottom-line social studies,” I should not hesitate to accept that And hope that from this cooperation, I will study the subtle and rigorous investigation methods of overseas Chinese scholars represented by Mr. Qiao Jian.
