我省柑桔的栽植密度,和国内外各地一样,近卅年来也是不断从稀向密发展。自五十年代到六十年代初,闽侯地区多为实生树,每亩种植3株左右;闽南一带多为高压和嫁接树,每亩种植40~50株。从六十年代后期到七十年代以后,全省各地栽植密度普遍提高,大部分每亩达60株以上。从现有栽植密度的柑桔生长情况来看,亩种50~70株左右的柑园,一般种后第四年开始正式投产,在种后8~9年进入高产期的同时,树冠就已密蔽封行,此后产量即随树势的衰退而不断下降,丰产期短,早期和后期都不能获得高产,所以这样的栽植密度是不够理想的。
