Gas chimneys are a special associated structure formed by thermal fluid activity. Once formed, the thermal fluid or hydrocarbon migration to the late episode remains a special migration channel, which also affects the accumulation of hydrocarbons. In this paper, the formation mechanism and evolution characteristics of gas chimneys were studied. The relationship between the gas chimney and generation, migration and accumulation of oil and gas was discussed, and the experimental results were validated by means of optical elasticity test and physical simulation. The results show that in the exploration of oil and gas in eastern China, the study of gas chimney not only can predict the distribution of shallow reservoirs, but also provide a scientific basis for searching deep organic and inorganic gas reservoirs
