故事梗概:单身母亲玛丽莎是纽约曼哈顿一家酒店的普通女佣。一次偶然的机会,正在试穿酒店一名顾客的名牌衣服的玛丽莎遇见了同住该饭店的参议员马歇尔。马歇尔因此误会玛丽莎是一位出身上流社会的社会名媛,并对她一见钟情。但是双方身份的悬殊使玛丽莎始终无法将自己的女佣身份告知对方。纸包不住火,玛丽莎偷穿顾客衣服的事情被揭发,她也因此被解雇,但是玛丽莎的上司莱昂内尔告诉她,服务他人并不等于低人一等……
Guard: I need your name tag, pass key and your ID card.
Keef: Sorry, Marisa, but I have to.
Marisa: I understand.
[Lionel came in.]
Marisa: Oh God, ①don’t tell me that they fired you over this, too.
Lionel: No. Actually I’ve made the decision a moment ago. ②It was long overdue.
Marisa: You quit?
Lionel: Sometimes we’re forced in directions till we ought to have found ourselves. [to Keef] Thank you.
Marisa: [to Keef] Thanks, Keef, bye.
Lionel: To serve people takes dignity and intelligence. But remember, they’re only people with money. Now that we serve them, we’re not their servants. What we do, Ms. Ventura, does not define who we are. ③What defines us is how well we rise after falling. I think you’ll make a wonderful manager someday. And it’s been my great honor to have worked with you.
