In nearly a decade, the British Navy’s command has plans to rebuild its communications system so that it can further meet the requirements for the reliability and coherence of its communications links and better integrate with the U.S. Navy and NATO communications systems. As communications satellites can quickly and reliably establish long-haul communications, the British Navy’s command post attaches great importance to satellite communications in this rebuilding effort. The United Kingdom started the construction of a skynet satellite communications system in 1966. The system is used by the British Army to establish radio communications with British troops and ships located in the waters between Gibraltar and Singapore. In 1970 and 1971, the first “Skynet-5” communications satellite terrestrial terminal stations (frequency range 7250-8400 MHz) were deployed on the “brave” frigate and the “Intrepid”
