9·11事件催生的大量文学作品形成了当代美国文学的一种新传统:回归本土,回归家庭。这意味着世界性对美国文学而言变得更加复杂。这一问题的另一个侧面,即他国在当代美国文学中的形象表现为两种截然相反的叙事图式:来到美国,前提是他国意味着荒诞与暴虐;逃离美国,目的是为了挣脱资本主义体制和传统的束缚。从世界性这一角度对大量产生于9.11前后的文学作品进行分析,可以得出的结论是,美国文学有必要对世界性问题进行更深入的剖析和讨论。
