The Infrared Sensor Simulator (IRSS) Development Program is a joint CTEIP project that includes the Air Force’s Integrated Electronic Warfare Test (ECIT) program and the Navy’s Air War Environment Test and Assessment Facility (ACETEF) , The former aims to improve the avionics testing and combination of complexity (ATIC). The Infrared Sensor Simulator program includes the introduction of the system-installed test equipment (ISTF) technology into ATIC and ACETEF and will provide a high-fidelity dynamic infrared simulation capability for realistic testing of infrared sensor systems installed on aerospace primary platforms. These infrared sensor systems include aiming and navigating forward-looking infrared (FLIR) systems, missile warning systems (MWS), infrared search and tracking (IRST) systems, and infrared missile seekers. The infrared sensor simulator will consist of one or more scene generation systems, a digital injection system, a point source projection system, and an image projection system. Threats, targets, and backgrounds are dynamically presented to the under-tested Infrared System (SUT) with sufficient fidelity to reflect a realistic battlefield environment. The Infrared Sensor Simulator will enable the Air Force and Navy to meet the requirements of the DT & E and OT & E testing of infrared systems by multiple operators.
