本模型用本所发现的BALB/c小鼠自发性乳腺癌作瘤源,同源小鼠作宿主,连续皮下移植传代,目前已达21代.从移植第1代起,即出现自发肺、肝转移,其转移比数为3/3.移植第9代的连续动态病理切片观察表明,移植后11d即可见肺转移,而肝转移多发生在20d左右,30d以后肺、肝转移率均理高达100%.该肿瘤以血道转移为主;亦可见淋巴转移,92例中3例伴有淋巴转移.此外,移植肿瘤后第11天开始,宿主脾脏出现进行性肿大,巨脾症是本模型的重要特征之一.
