Kang Youwei’s understanding of Meiji Japan not only became an important part of his ideological system, but also formed the backbone of guiding ideology of the reform movement. In this paper, I will give an conclusion as follows: An overview of the knowledge of Meiji Japan in the late Qing Dynasty, the channels of Kang Youwei’s acquisition of Meiji’s thoughts on reform, and the Japanese reference books used by Kang You-wei in “ The slogan of ”Japan as a Teacher" stipulated a major direction for the transformational movement in modern China. However, due to the serious lack of information on the Japanese studies in Meiji at that time, coupled with the heavy pressure of a strong Confucian tradition and language understanding , Kang Youwei’s grasping of Meiji Japan, like that of the Qing bureaucrats and other intellectuals at that time, was still fragmentary and superficial and should not be overestimated.
