在γ取样中,如成石的射气系数为10%,有效扩散长度为5厘米(这是常遇到的情况),则因氡气扩散而造成的γ射线强度损失为4—5%。这时如果不进行γ强度的修正,就会使γ取样求出的含量要比真含量偏低4—5%。要进行修正,除了要知道矿石的射气系数α外,还需要知道矿石的有效扩散长度l。但是直到现在,还没有一种简便的求天然产状矿石的有效扩散长度的方法。本文则将介绍一种求矿石有效扩散长度的方法——炮孔法。
