90年代,伴随着商品市场经济的全面铺开,以发达的大众传播媒介为手段,遵循消费社会内在逻辑的市场文化迅速扩张和繁荣。它对社会日常生活的大举进犯和深刻影响使得一部分知识分子不得不寻求新的言说方式回应政治、经济和文化的巨变。“文化研究”应时而入,一定程度上纾解了文学批评和理论失去现实有效性的焦虑。然而,传统文学批评、理论话语的失效除了外部政治、经济变革的原因之外,有其深刻的内部逻辑,对此加之以一定的梳理能更好的理解这种转向。同时,文化研究在英语学术界自有其内在的问题意识和发展脉络,在本土化的过程中,也面临着庸俗化、学院体制化、历史纵深感欠缺等危险倾向。
In the 1990s, along with the full swing of the commodity market economy, the developed mass media as a means to follow the logic of the consumer society, the rapid expansion of market culture and prosperity. Its mass infiltration and profound influence on the daily life of society led some intellectuals to seek new ways to respond to the political, economic and cultural changes. “Cultural Studies ” should be entered from time to time, to a certain extent, relieve the anxiety that literary criticism and theory lose their effectiveness. However, the failure of traditional literary criticism and theoretical discourse has its profound internal logic except for the reasons of external politics and economic transformation, which can be better understood by a certain combing. At the same time, cultural studies have their inherent problems awareness and development context in the English academic community. In the process of localization, cultural studies are also faced with dangerous tendencies such as vulgarization, institutionalization of colleges and lack of historical depth.
