顾炎武作为清代考据大师为世所称道，许多学者都认为其治学惟重考据而不重义理，即有义理亦纯为宋学余绪，而无特立之论。其实这是对顾氏思想的一个误解。顾氏理学以经学为基础，而以经世致用为指归，是一种与宋明理学基本精神完全不同的新理学。
Gu Yanwu as a master of the Qing Dynasty textual criticism of the world commendable, many scholars believe that its scholarship but rather than re-examination of meaning, that justice is pure and pure Song Songxu, without any particularity. In fact, this is a misunderstanding of Gu’s thinking. Gu’s philosophy is based on the Confucian classics, which is a kind of neo-Confucianism completely different from the basic spirit of the Neo-Confucianism.
