Described TORM (totally ordered reliable m ulticast), a reliable multicast protocol for real-time interactive applications such as whiteboards. In addition to providing efficient and reliable data transmission services for upper-layer applications by using multicasting, it also implements a centralized concurrency control mechanism to ensure that messages in the session are submitted to the application layer in a globally unique order for the whiteboard application to maintain data consistency. TORM adopts a hierarchical structure to solve the problem of identifying imploded and improves the scalability of the protocol. TORM also increases reliability and flexibility through the separation of multicast services and clients, reducing the need for storage space by adopting a flexible message buffering strategy
