INTRODUCTION Five underground mines run by Nickel International Canada are located on the fringes of the Sudbury Basin in northern Ontario. Four of these mines, 卽: Frood-Stobie, Greighton, Murray and Garson mines are located in the southern part of the basin, The center radius of 24 km. The fifth mine, Levack, is 72 km northwest of the city north of the basin. The 5 mined ore is mainly nickel and copper, while the ore contains the main minerals of pentlandite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite. In 1960, the total ore production exceeded 16 million tons, of which 95% were mined from five underground mines and the remainder from the Frodo Stow open-pit mine. The open pit mining operation has come to an end and underground mining production has increased to supplement the open-pit tonnage.
