The synthesis of o-vanillin acetates with cadmium chloride was reported. The results of elemental analysis, IR and other characterizations showed that the complex formed by the ligand and cadmium chloride was tested by the laser frequency doubling effect and X - ray single crystal structure analysis. [CdC_ (20) H_ (26) N_2O_6Cl_2] · (1/2) C_2H_6O, M_r = 596.76, monoclinic space group: C_c, a = 1.5475 (3), b = (2), c = 1.7295 (3) nm, β = 116.50 (3) °, Z = 4. The structure was solved by the direct method, R = 0.043 and R_w = 0.052. Structural analysis showed that cadmium interacted with two ligands In which four oxygen atoms and two chlorine anions coordinate to form a distorted octahedral configuration. This asymmetric structure leads to the non-linear optical properties of the complex crystal.
