This article analyzes the narrative features, the characteristics of painting style and the humanistic spirit in “My Growing up in the Village” cartoon. Through the appreciation of this comic, I hope it will be helpful to popularize the independent comic and its related research. “I grew up in the village” (Hong Kong version, also known as “Fairview Lam Tin”) was created in 2002 by Hong Kong independent cartoonist Yeung Tak-tak, with a memoir of personal comic books, won the comic industry’s highly praised. Yang Xuede was born in Hong Kong in the 1970s, working as a freelance illustrator. His childhood was spent in the estates in Lam Tin, Hong Kong. The estates were public housing estates set up by the Hong Kong government for housing low-income earners.
