學生能夠牢固地記住他所學得的知識,首先是和學生學習的自覺性與積極性分不開的。不通過學生的積極自覺的活動,單憑教師注入的知識,是決不會在學生記憶中留下深刻印象的。怎樣才會使學生自覺地積極地學習呢?第一必須使學生明確學習動物學的目的,使學生知道動物學的知識對祖國建設的巨大意義。使他們認識到學習這門科學的必要性,把學習當作自己的責任,並使這種責任感輿熱愛祖國的情感結合起來。只有用這種嚴肅的愛國主義思想作為學習的動力,學生們才會用堅強的意志克服學習中的困難,自覺地積極地學好這門科學。為了達到這種目的,我們不能滿足於僅僅講授教科書緒論中所指出的學習目的;而必須在全部教學過程中,也就是說,在每一節教材的講授中,都要使學生感覺到學習這種知識的目的。例如:「講疾病的傳播者」一課時,就要告訴學生:「有些動物能傳播疾病,為了保證我們的健康,必須研究它們的構造、生活方式以及和它們作鬥爭的方法……。」講「和農業害蟲作鬥爭」一課的時候,必須告訴學生:「……為了提高祖國農產物的收穫量,必須好好研究和農業害蟲作鬥爭的方法……。」這樣,通過每一課的講授,使學業對學習動物學的總目的有了
