According to CIMdata, triaxial multi-face milling occupies a leading position in NC programming worldwide. Christman, deputy director of the research team, said many people think most of the NC programming time is spent on two-axis and two-axis semi-machining operations such as turning, drilling and plate bending and cutting. This is not a fact. Two-axis half-milling currently accounts for only 15% of NC programming time. Most two-axis and two-axis semi-machining programs solve simple box parts. Mechanics are often the program that writes such parts directly on the controller without having to use offline CAM software.
