The Abbey Threshold is a poem by Christina Rossetti in the 1862 book Collection Goblin and Other. The poem tells the sin committed by the innocence of an unknown heroine and hopes to be saved through repentance. This poem has always been considered as a response to Christina’s reading of a poem by Alois Alberts to Alexander Pope. However, in the Victorian era, the crisis of faith caused more and more Britons to question religion. As a devout Anglican, the poem “The Threshold of a Monastery” can be seen as a reflection of Christina Rossetti’s relationship with Victorian science and religious beliefs.
