广东省潮剧院经常出国演出,观众们总要打听“我们的‘梅兰芳’来了没有?”或者问“我们的‘红线女’来了没有?”指的就是姚璇秋。如果谢幕时不见她,哪怕戏很中看,观众也觉得是个遗憾。可见她令人称慕以至如此。去年潮剧院赴京参加艺术节演出的《张春郎削发》没有适合姚璇秋的角色。但她还是随团来到北京。为在京的广大潮汕观众,在会外招待演出了一台折子戏。姚演的是《井边会》(《白兔记》的一折)中受苦妇女的典型——李三娘。她未出场先呼一声“苦哇——!”一般演员通常是在“哇!”字吐出后,音调直往上奔,有多高的音就奔多高,至最高点才收住,以其嗓音的高而亮,去赢得观众的“碰头好”。而姚璇秋却不是这样:当“哇”字出来后,是以一调三波来拖音,起而后伏;象英文字母的W。只叫你感受到凄厉,决无诱你鼓掌之意。
