加拿大总督文学奖得主、华裔英语作家余兆昌从社会、历史和文化各个角度对女性身份做全面、深入、细腻敏锐的解读,塑造了既有独特性格、又有丰厚文化底蕴的女性形象。本文从文学与文化角度,研究余兆昌塑造新型华人女性形象的三种方法:一、置女主人公于不同社会、文化背景的融合、冲突和相互挑战的环境中,打破封闭的华人聚居地(如唐人街)界限和男权至上的传统;二、在真实的历史背景中塑造人物;三、在儒家与道家文化和价值体系中对主人公的性格进行阐释。 Yu Zhaochang, the Canadian Governor of Literature Prize winner and Chinese-American English writer, made a comprehensive, in-depth and delicate reading of women’s identity from all angles of society, history and culture, and created a female image with unique characters and rich cultural details. This article studies Yu Zhaochang’s three methods of shaping a new Chinese female image from the perspective of literature and culture. Firstly, the heroine breaks the enclave of enclave (such as Chinatown) in the environment of integration, conflict and mutual challenges of different social and cultural backgrounds The tradition of patriarchal authority and supremacy of patriarchal power; second, characterizing people in real historical background; third, explaining the character of the protagonist in the Confucian and Taoist culture and value system.
